October Executive Director Message

Hello WI Veterans Chamber Community,

Thank you to all who attended our Veterans in the Workforce Summit event. We were proud to welcome more than 100 employers, hiring professionals, and veteran leaders to discuss the critical need for our business community to develop and lead veteran inclusive workplaces.

We heard from industry leaders such as Bill Ball, President of Grunau Company, Caleb Frostman, Department of Workforce Development Secretary, and a panel with leading members from Cargill, Baird, Froedtert, American Family Insurance, and Associated Bank.

We were proud to highlight the commitments of businesses across the state to creating inclusive, welcoming workplaces for military service members, veterans, and their families. Employers recognize the unique talent, skills, and values military-affiliated employees bring to their workforce, and are looking to them to grow and improve their businesses. Attendees heard from leading veteran employers about how employers can invest in military service members, veterans, and their families to improve their workforce and grow their businesses.

We launched our Military Spouse and Veteran Internship Recruitment Pledge. The Veteran Internship Recruitment Pledge provides employers of every size with the opportunity to publicly commit to hiring veterans for available positions within existing internship programs. We also announced a new series of programs to support the efforts of employers of every size to engage, recruit, and retain veterans, service members, and military spouses. Our new Invest in Vets 5-Star Program will provide assist companies of any size with resources, training and procedures to promote their inclusive workplace and support their military, veteran and/or spouse employees. To “earn their stars,” businesses will have to adopt veteran, veteran family, and veteran-spouse supporting policies and procedures in the areas of hiring, internal support, continuing education, and community involvement.

We want to thank the more than one dozen employers who have already committed to Invest in Vets and applied for the 5-Star Employer Program in the few weeks since these programs were announced.

Thank you for all you do.
