Veterans Small Business Champion Award Winner: Curtis L. Schmitt, Jr.

Curtis L. Schmitt Jr. is a combat medic, a Veteran advocate, a community activist, and a servant leader. He is an awardee of the Veteran Small Business Champion of the Year, a President’s Club Recipient, a National Achieving Banker, and a lifelong learner. He is the Membership Director for the Wisconsin Veterans Chamber of Commerce, leads their business accelerator program called “Command Post”, leads a team of volunteers, and was previously a Vice President of Investments, a Small Business Specialist, and a Private Client Banker at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. He was the chairman and founder of a Business Resource Group called VETS (Voices for Employees That Served), created a curriculum for Senior Level Managers and Management staff to understand the Veteran transition and military culture, and developed a mentorship program that was rolled out throughout the country.

He was recently appointed by the Governor of Wisconsin to the Board of Veterans Affairs, representing the 1stCongressional District, was elected to serve as the Vice-Chair for the Board, and continues to serve as an advisor to the Board of Directors for VETMotorsports. He is an Ambassador for Hire Military, a Department of Defense Skillbridge program that promotes civilian job training for transitioning service members prior to them exiting the active-duty component. He has led over 80 volunteer events with organizations like Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, Carry the Load, Junior Achievement and more.

He is passionate about helping the Veteran population and takes pride in helping his fellow community members. While being culturally diverse he is an expert in the transition of Veterans and Service-members. Having struggled with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and a Readjustment Disorder he understands the internal challenges Veterans face when transitioning, and he understands the struggle Service-members face when serving abroad. Having served in Afghanistan and Iraq with the Army’s infamous 10th Mountain Division he is continuing his service to our nation by assisting as many Veterans and Service-members as he can. 


Curtis graduated with honors with a bachelor’s degree in Finance and Economics from Ashford University and is currently pursuing his Executive MBA at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He has held multiple investment licenses, has a Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma, and has been nominated for multiple awards for his work in the community.
